As all other folk of the Earth, the Czech people created their original fairy-tales which have been passed on from generation to generation. Even if the fairy-tales seem outwardly strange to us, it is possible to recognize the familiar features in the basic motifs.

This “Czech tale” offers an insight into the life of the simple people of Bohemia and Moravia and into the world of their wishes and dreams. Bozena Nemcova and Karel Jaromir Erben are to be thanked for these cultural treasures that were passed on verbally for centuries staying preserved. And so the magic words are still effective, much more than any other ones, that remind the adults of their childhood and that make the chi’ldren’s eyes shine : "Once upon a time..."
